Publication
Apart from producing festival books and bulletins Film Societies
have regular periodicals. Close Look(Chalachitra), News from
Soorya (Soorya), Sequences(Cochin Film Society), Darsana Sahitya
sadas(Darsana), Sameepa Drishyam(Navachitra), Rasmi Chalachitra
Varta(Rasmi Film Society), Bankmen's club News letter , Film
vision (FILCA) and Drisyathalam(FFSI) are still going on strong.
Drisyathalam ventured into a new terrain by introducing post-structuralist/colonial
studies on all the genres of cinema and this opened up new
spaces of reading and viewing cinema. Some erstwhile journals
which created a radical consciousness amongst the cineastes
are Drisyakala(Thrissur), Odessa journal(Odessa), Screen(Jwala),
Chitradarpana (Darpana), Sychromy (Sarga), Cinerythm (Kasargode
film society). The fore runner in this genre was Darsana film
society's (Palakkad) Darsana bulletin. To list some important
books published by various Societies : Aravindan and His Films,
Adoor Gopalakrishnan - 25 years of Film Making, M.T: The Film
Maker, Symphony of Words (on the film Piravi) by Chalachitra,
Chalachitra Samskarathinte Desiya Prathisandhikal by V.K.
Joseph and D. Chandrasenan, Nilavilikalum Marmarangalaum (Autobiography
of Ingmar Bergman) by Resmi Film Society, Malappuram.
