Production
There were some significant attempts
in the area of film production and distribution, which are
worth mentioning: like Chitralekha, Odessa, Chalachitra and
Rasmi Film Society. Chitralekha Film Cooperative was one of
the pioneers in the field. After making a number of significant
films including Swayamvaram and Kodiyettam, the cooperative
became inactive. Janasakthi films, an offshoot of the post
emergency cultural upsurge, also made some significant attempts
in the field. They had a collection of films for distribution
and also made forays into production. Odessa's Amma Ariyan,
the last film of the late John Abraham, was made entirely
with the contributions of common folk an exceptional incident
in the history of cinema.
It was in its tenth year that Chalachitra
went one step further in its activities and directed by
making a documentary film on renowned illustrator and artist
Namboodiri and directed by G. Aravindan, titled "Contours
of Linear Rhythm". A major event after Odessa experiment
was that of Resmi Film Society, which produced a documentary
"Ithihasathile Khasak" in 1995.In 2003 Scarface
came out with 'Agni',a digital short feature.
