JOHN ABRAHAM FILM AWARDS
JOHN ABRAHAM (1937-1987), the guiding spirit behind radical
initiatives for people's cinema in Malayalam, extended the
horizons of film making, aesthetically and politically.
His films include Agraharathil Kazhuthi(1977),
Cheriyachante Kroorakrthyangal(1979) and
Amma Ariyan(1986).
JOHN ABRAHAM FILM AWARDS were originally instituted in 1999
as an annual film award for the best Malayalam feature film,
short film and documentary by the South -West Region of
FFSI. From 2005 onwards, with the launching of SIGNS,
the competition for documentaries and short feature has
been extended to the national level.
